conch current
pattern was inspired by a shell I picked in Lamu island Kenya. I created thread work with discarded materials and included the conch. This artwork like blowing the conch's vibration to cleanse energy, is a reminder to honor your vibration. ABOUT PATTERN WORK : The kikoi emerged from cultural exchange between East Africans and their trading partners from nations like Somalia centuries ago. That’s popular in Uganda , you have kangas , lesu all merging from cultures exchanged. We have the legendary queer icons take on kanga love making a new cloth. All these inspired one thing I want to see even more African fabrics materials designs. So I started marking these to feed my soul. I’m always ready to see more, these are literal signs of our cultures appreacting eachother as abundant as we are. I think the world needs more light too, here’s a conch, An anchor to remind us to honor vibration or Heshimu mtetemo wake in Swahili
