Teddy the racer
Teddy was my beloved chow-chow mix who loved nothing more than travelling around Mallorca with me in a convertible. He always sat in the back seat behind me, at the open window and looked out for hours with his cool sunglasses. He loved it even more when the roof was open. Because of him, there were always good-humoured people on the roads around us.
Teddy was a former animal welfare dog: a Spanish chain dog from Andalusia who was badly mistreated and eventually thrown out of the car on the motorway. He wandered around there for several days and was unfortunately hit by a car, causing his hind leg to break. With the last of his strength, the large, skinny and starving dog dragged himself to a village, where he collapsed exhausted on the road. The police found him and took him to an animal shelter. No one wanted him as he was too big and had had an operation on his leg. So he ended up in the killing centre. But he had the luck of his life because I found him on the internet at the last minute and adopted him.
He was 14 years old and spent 12 of those years with me. Teddy was my soul dog and my best friend. I want him to live on as a work of art and continue to spread joy, as he did when he looked out of my car for hours and delighted passers-by and other drivers.
