Raja Yoga - Chakra Ascension Routine
Christopher Scafone, 2008. Illustrator. The forward bending and twisting postures activate the energy-centers. The backward bending postures drive the energy up the spine toward the brain. All posture routines should be a balance between forward, twisting, and backward. The highest exercise in true yoga is meditation - going within, beyond the mind and body senses, and raising the prana up the spine and into the brain, awakening the meditator to higher levels of understanding, realization, and potentials. Note: The "Cobra" pose (depicted in this piece, second from the top) can be substituted with the "Camel" pose. Likewise, the shoulder-stand is interchangeable with the "plow" pose. Anyone can improve his/her flexibility. It is a process. It will take time, patience, and the endurance of discomfort. All stretching should be approached with caution. Stretching should NEVER be forced or ballistic. One should obtain physician's approval before undertaking any new exercise regimen.
