Hanami (October Maple)
The October (The Maple) tetraptych is the tenth month from the Hanami Series. The Hanami series is a collection of artworks including 13 tetraptychs. Inspired by the floral motifs and cultural iconography of traditional hanafuda (i.e. Japanese flower cards). What is Hanafuda? Hanafuda (known in Korea as 'Hwatu') are floral-themed playing cards that are rich in symbolism and popular in Japan, Korea, and Hawaii. Hanafuda cards have 12 suits. Each suit is represented by a month of the year (e.g. June) and each month is represented by a flower (e.g. Peony). Hanami was also produced as Fusion (Poker) & Hanafuda playing card decks.
