Jane Austen favourite things and daily objects in watercolor
What would Jane do in a covid 19 pandemic? Light a candle, make tea and write, of course! We can learn from Jane! Jane Austen favourite things and daily objects in watercolor, Jane Austen's hobbies & pastimes-Sewing, reading, shoes, cakes, tea, crafts & writing with tea and cake- painted in watercolor .
Jane Austen fabric inspired by reasearching Jane's favourite hobbies and pastimes plus regency fashions and painted in watercolor on a background on one of Jane Austen's letters to her sister Cassandra. Read more about my visits to Jane's home at Chawton, my research and art project which is an homage to Jane at http://www.magentarose.co.uk/hampshire-home-of-jane-austen-and-me/
Jane loved to write, to read, to socialise and sew. She also loved eating and drinking! In one of her letters to her sister she says " You know how interesting the purchase of a new sponge cake is to me"
During my research, I found that Jane would have eaten Bundt cake, for breakfast. They did not have baking powder in those days, so it was very labour intensive and made by whisking many eggs.
Jane loved buying ribbons and flowers for her bonnets. She loved a good sewing party, even saying she was the best at sewing her brother's shirts.
Jane kept the key to the tea cupboard on a chatelaine like the one in this fabric. She was a great tea lover and always made tea every morning for the family. In regency times they had no sewing machine, electric or things we take for granted!
