Rising Through the Trees
For this view of downtown San Francisco, I placed the leafy hillside in front of the towers so the city would seem to grow naturally out of the landscape. I used loose, wet washes of olive, blue-green, and smoky violet for the foliage, allowing the colors to mingle before adding the sharper geometry of the skyline. The Transamerica Pyramid provides a delicate central point, while the newer towers broaden the composition.
