Purple Rhododendron
My dad’s prized purple rhododendron was one of the most important plants I documented when he asked me to record everything in his garden. It produced large clusters of deep purple, trumpet-shaped flowers in late spring, standing out clearly against its dense, evergreen foliage. I noted the size of the shrub, the structure of its branches, and how reliably it flowered each year, even in cooler weather. The blooms attracted plenty of bees, and their colour made the plant a focal point in the garden. Recording its details felt especially meaningful, because it was a shrub he was particularly proud of and one that defined the character of the space he’d created.
