Over the Crest
I began this painting with the rails, letting their parallel lines rise over the hill and pull the cable car toward the center of the composition. The trees were painted wet into wet with several greens, while the street and sidewalks received lighter washes of gray, tan, and dusty rose. I added the riders last, using only enough detail to suggest the familiar mix of commuters and visitors.
