Labor Service; Europe;
At the end of World War II, the US Army established the so-called Labor Service in Germany. Units with personnel primarily from third countries retained the designation "Labor Service" in their unit name. The main task of the Labor Service was to relieve the US Army Europe (USAREUR) and support it with day-to-day operations. This principle remains in effect today for the Civilian Support (CS) organization.
