Costa Rican Boruca Masks – Traditional Devil Mask Trio
Three colorful illustrated masks inspired by the traditional carved masks of Costa Rica’s Boruca, or Brunca, people.
These masks are closely associated with the Juego de los Diablitos, an annual Boruca tradition in which elaborately carved and painted masks are worn during a dramatic reenactment symbolizing Indigenous resistance to Spanish colonization.
This design features three masks together, preserving their bold shapes, expressive faces and vivid colors in an illustrated style made for apparel.
