Calendula in Copper Light
This time, I painted this golden-orange bloom from the side to emphasize the way its layered petals lift and open toward the sun. Burnt sienna, ochre, apricot, and pale yellow were built up in transparent bands, with cooler green shadows tucked beneath the flower head. I left several highlights untouched, giving the petals a slightly crisp, papery quality.
