Behind the Window
Behind the Window is a brush painting in traditional Chinese free style technique (shan shui) with ink on rice paper. It's a look out of the window on a rainy day in the Yellow Mountain China.
The Yellow Mountains, also called Huangshan is one of the most famous and beautiful mountainous areas in China. It was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its spectacular natural scenery includes oddly-shaped pines and rocks and mystical seas of cloud.
I have visited the Yellow Mountain in November and it was foggy, rainy and mystery. Therefore I painted the mountains in rain. This experimental painting shows the mountains through a window on a rainy day.
I look through the rainy window, the drops of water running down and the wind whipping against the window. Enjoy the mystical, misty view of the mountain landscape!
Chinese landscape painting, in general, is the famous paintings art that take landscapes as themes, treats the natural mountains and rivers as major description objects.
Chinese brush mountains paintings are not simply depict natural views, but reveal the pursuit of spirit and the philosophy of life of painters. It also reflects the inner consciousness for self-cultivation of Chinese which called "Mountain is the model of virtue and water is the good example of character".
In China the calligraphy always belongs to the painting. It’s like the signature from the artist. The bigger characters are always the title of the painting. The smaller calligraphy shows the name of the artist and sometimes where and when the painting was created.
On the picture is written „bai jie hua yu nan jing” what means “painted by Bai Jie in Nanjing”
Bai Jie is my Chinese name.
You can also buy it without the calligraphy! Check out my gallery.
The original is mounted in traditional style as silk scroll and framed with white and goldgreen silk!
