View Larger on Chockstone Photography The Pinnacles is a solid hours trek over sandy hills from Cape Woolamai Beach on Philip Island in Victoria, Australia. The view upon arrival is amazing with waves crashing on the rocks below and the ocean disappearing into Bass Strait. Along the way you'll see dozens (and at times of the year thousands) of short-tailed shearwaters (mutton birds). These are small migratory birds that fly to Alaska each April. At dusk they dart across the sky at maddening speeds and seemingly random directions somehow avoiding collisions with each other. It's an experience just to be there.
