View Larger on Chockstone Photography Shoal Bay is a popular beach holiday destination not far from Port Stephens on the New South Wales mid-north coast. A relatively short walk up nearby Tomaree Head (inside Tomaree National Park) will yield great views in all directions. This is one location I have returned to many times because it just works so well as a panorama. Setting up a tripod on the metal walk-way can produce vibrations from constant foot traffic, so the secret is to wait patiently for people to move passed. The next challenge is flare. Shooting straight into the direct light of the setting sun is always problematic. Fortunately there are some tricks that can be employed to work around it such has bracketing exposures with and without shielding the lens to the point of obscuring the sun itself. It is just such a beautiful scene and a cool place to explore I am sure to return again soon. The whole coastal line is dotted with potential, just waiting for some amazing light like we had on this evening.
