View Larger on Chockstone Photography MacMasters Beach is a lovely little coastal town about an hour and a half north of Sydney. The ocean pool sits at one end of the beach, up against a rocky cliff and is a grand spot to sit and watch the sunrise. I arrived here mid-way through an extended photography trip in desperate need of sleep having gone without to maximise shooting opportunities over the preceding days and complete an inordinate amount of driving. My first dawn here was fortunately completed clouded over and raining. Slumbering in the car, I managed to open my eyes long enough to conclude the shot wasn’t going to happen and slept right through into late afternoon. I went to work on another location at sunset, then returned to MacMasters Beach for a second dawn attempt. This time the sky was lit beautifully, but without a breath of wind to disturb the reflections. What luck! I fired shot after shot as the sun rose higher, until a local swimmer began her morning laps, breaking the reflections and the spell I’d been placed under by such a welcoming dawn in such a welcoming location.
