View Larger on Chockstone Photography Cascade falls resides inside the Macquarie Pass National Park, near Kiama on the southern coast of New South Wales. From the small carpark off the Illawarra Highway, it is a gentle half hour walk (2km) through to the lower falls. Although short the walk takes you through a variety of trees including eucalypts, turpentines, lilly pillys, cabbage tree palms and native figs. Swimming is quite popular here (though personally I would be on the lookout for leeches). Optionally you can then scramble steeply upwards for those looking for more adventure and willing to risk slipping for some additional cascades and views. During our visit, several parties came and went so in terms of photography you will need to be prepared to wait or consider arriving very early. On the way in, keep an eye out for the twisty strangler fig that looks like belongs in an art gallery. Nature is cool!
