Zenith Beach resides inside Tomaree National Park, within walking distance of the lovely little town of Shoal Bay in northern New South Wales, itself not far from busy Port Stephens.
The water is brilliantly clear, and the surrounding peaks make the small beach seem secluded. Unfortunately it can become quite populated during the warmer months, even at dawn when this image was captured. Having attempted to work this scene dozens of times over the course of a few decades, I can attest to the difficulty in obtaining the right combination of interesting cloud, sunrise colour, tide height and lack of visitors.
Finally on this occasion luck was on my side and I came away with something that hopefully shows the deserving Zenith Beach at its best. Such a beautiful morning! Undoubtedly I will continue to visit, when time and money permits, as I still feel there is more photographic potential to explore in this cracker of an area.
