    Stacked Rocks
Rock formations at the Devil's Kitchen. Scarsdale Victoria. Devil's Kitchen is natural amphitheatre of high basalt cliffs bordering the Woady Yaloak River at Piggoreet. The amphitheatre has been caused by the river establishing a course through a valley filled with lava flowing from volcanoes active in the late Tertiary. The basalt cliffs contain evidence of a number of separate lava flows that filled the valley. Some flows exhibit hexagonal columns that developed during the cooling process. Gold mining also took place in this area in the 1850's with many mullock heaps still visible. 100 Views: 22 August 2013. Olympus E-30, Zuiko 7-14mm, 7mm, f22, 1/10 sec., ISO 100.
