View Larger on Chockstone Photography Khancoban is a small but beautiful country town in the very southern end of New South Wales. With a lovely big lake and mountains all around, it's a nice spot for holiday if you're into water sports, fishing or exploring nature. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if most Victorians think of it as the gateway to Kosciuszko National Park and as such the last place to fuel up before the winding 77km drive up to Thredbo where all manner of adventure can be found including skiing, snowboarding, downhill mountain biking and of course, the highest point in the country. They probably stop long enough in Khancoban to use the facilities, buy coffee and then head off again and in doing so fail to experience this cracker of a location. Here's an inside tip. Just through town, head right down Murray Power Station road until you reach the boat ramp at Khancoban Pondage. There you'll find a wonderful lakeside picnic area where you can let the kids run around, relax, dip your feet in the water and breath in some peace.
