Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is a tack 108 megapixel image, suitable for enormous enlargements. View Larger on Chockstone Photography Kanangra-Boyd is the south-western continuation of the popular Blue Mountains National Park, not far from Sydney. It takes about 3 and a half hour drive to the start of the Plateau Walk track, which itself is easy enough I’d rate it family friendly, particularly in light of other activities in the area such as Jenolan Caves and camping at Boyd River. Apart from Kanangra Tops Plateau there are several other, more serious tracks to explore, including a three day trek north to Black Heath. If I told you how many times I’ve sat perched on this cliff awaiting the dawn only to be met with yet another fully clouded in, near zero visibility sunrise you probably wouldn’t believe me. It takes a certain kind of madness to keep coming back, but eventually persistence paid off and I finally caught golden light penetrating the veil. Fortunately it’s a wonderful place to sit and watch the morning unfold. The fog rises up out of the valley and offers tantalising glimpses of the view beyond only to playfully obscure it once more. Birds of prey circle aloft on currents of air, whilst others call to one another, their cries sharp in the silence. The cold finally gives way to a muggy warmth, or perhaps some rain and eventually around midday you’ll be able to see the whole valley in all its glory.
