Coolamine Homestead Sunset, Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales, Australia
Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is a tack sharp 93 megapixel image, suitable for enormous enlargements. View Larger on Chockstone Photography Coolamine Homestead rests in a quiet, perhaps even magical little vale, high on an alpine plateau in the far northern end of Kosciuszko National Park. It’s a peaceful place. Caught here, just as the last of the light painted the hills and aged huts in a pale gold, the scene portraits a timelessness and beauty. Had a stockman rode up with his dogs and a curl of smoke drifted from the chimney I would not have been surprised. The valley below echoes at this time with the occasional whinny of wild horses. Brown and chestnut in colour, long of mane, they strike a proud stance with great displays of sudden rapidity declaring to all they own the land more than any man. Approaching slowly one morning, my legs sodden with dew, the heavy tripod over one shoulder, I ventured into the gloom in their direction realizing I carried only short lenses and had not a hope of photographing them. The noble stallion caught my scent far too soon and quickly moved his herd away, returning to pawn the ground and snort his disgust at my presence – a challenge I wisely chose to avoid.
