Desert Rains
Sand Ripples signify so much more than just patterns in the sand. The process is called saltation, where each grain (of sand or snow) is swept chaotically by the wind, bouncing off each other, yet when they land, they form these calming waves. From chaos to calm. I added a blue to this colorway to represent the desert rains. By adding this color, it has transformed this abstract representation of sand ripples into an aerial view of the desert dunes after rainfall. Raging torrents burst through arid valleys and waterfalls rush to the earth. Rain in the desert is exhilarating, and scary, yet equally beautiful and serene. The sheer force of nature challenges it’s visitor to recognize their humble significance. The desert always has a lesson to teach and a story to tell.
