The Marina
This one was one of my bigger projects on a 40 inch canvas, for which I placed the marina and waterfront buildings in the foreground, then let the green slopes and dense neighborhoods rise toward downtown. The water was painted in pale turquoise and blue, with the boats preserved as small white shapes. I used stronger charcoal and blue-gray washes for the skyline, balancing the newer towers with the familiar Transamerica Pyramid.
