Tacking Point Lighthouse.
Tacking Point. Tacking Point takes its name from the fact that the point was in sight when during his 1802-03 circumnavigation of Australia Matthew Flinders in his small vessel named Investigator tacked (changed direction). The rocky headland remained untouched until 1879 when Shepherd and Joseph William Mortley built this lighthouse which was designed by the New South Wales Colonial Architect, James Barnet. Today the lighthouse is a popular tourist attraction and stands as a reminder to the legacy of Matthew Flinders. Port Macquarie. New South Wales. Australia.
