6016 x 5836 VIEW SUPERENLARGED Rough Ridge, South face of Grandfather Mountain looking SW, located between Linville and Blowing Rock off the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC, USA 2015 Miles A Moody All Rights Reserved Nikon D610, 1/6 sec, F/22, 35 mm, Gitzo Tripod, Nikon Head, post processing in CS5 God only knows how long that little Fir Tree has clung to this rock escarpment - like a naturally occurring Banzai Tree, I suspect. Only a couple of feet in height, it has probably weathered every kind of storm that mother nature can fling at the side of Grandfather Mountain. I would like to imagine that just now, this stooped and bedraggled little ole lady of a thing is feeling like it has all been worth it. It's not hard for me to hear the theme song to the 'Sound of Music' as the joy of Maria simply springs to life to set the sap flowing anew in this little tree. Like she's brand new again, she just gazes into the setting sun and smiles inside herself.
