Still Life Study
This past summer ('26) I went to a week long art class and took two classes, one of them being an acrylic painting and texture class. I made some great friends during my time there, ate AMAZING food, and met so many fantastic, skilled artists! This painting is one of two that I made in that class, and each class was about two hours long. We sketched a few still lifes to warm up, chose which still life we wanted to paint, sketched it on prepared, textured paper we had toned. This took me about three days to complete, and I was technically supposed to do it color. But...I decided to be afraid of color that week and stuck to grayscale values. Throughout the process and at the end we critiqued each other's work. The general consensus was that I painted the clear glass pretty well (especially given the fact I've never painted and rendered glass before), the fruit looks nice; the perspective with the draped cloth needs improvement, and the teeth of the skull could definitely use more clarity. I don't do still lifes often, so I think this is a pretty nice result for not having done still lifes often.
