Starvation

This picture was not easy to do. It is about a very deeply upsetting subject to do with starvation. I can share with you, a time in my life, when I was in such dire straits, financially, that I could n't afford to buy even the basics, to sustain my life. It was a rough hard time, not knowing where my next meal was coming from. As of now in November 2024, my life is very different. I have enough to meet my needs. With food security no longer a major worry. So my picture, makes a poltical and moral statement, where the main figure is assembled here, using dark, pasty, grimey colours, for the face and body, to radiate the diseased emaciated state, experienced by the man shown. My oil colours are deliberately combined in such a way, to get you the viewer to think, and shock you. As it could so easily bring back memories deeply repressed, of times when you went through an episode in your life, where you experienced starvation and deprivation from food. Putting your own life at serious risk, of ill-health, and potentially death. I added in the slogan regarding "I have nothing, feed me." Which I slotted in around the disintergrating corpse like body of the main sufferer, who is going through the truly hellish experience of being denied the basic right of a square meal a day. What is dignity, and it's purpose when you are unable to eat? It takes on a stark new reality. I used to be a social worker in England, I am retired now, and have first hand witness to the sufferings of others, in the area of food deprivation. However, I was greatly privileged, when I worked for public services in the UK, to have been in a position, when I was able to practically reduce and alleviate the trauma of food deprivation, due to the fact of being able to help my then clients, with access to emergency food service providers, along with helping them improve their income, when they needed that help most. Essentially from government state benefits and grants, which were there, to lessen the hunger pains they were experiencing.
