Roundabout
My practice delves into the visible and invisible lines of communication that direct our movement through both real and virtual time and space. In our bustling world, we are herded by signs, work, and a sense of loyalty. The media shapes our thoughts and emotions, dictated by the algorithms we encounter.
In a world of increased connectivity, I believe we are lonelier than ever. Is this because it is easier to connect with a multitude of superficial relationships rather than nurture a few that are messy, deep, challenging, and meaningful?
Sometimes I feel like I am going around in circles when trying to find help about a problem from a real person, and then being diverted back to a chat bot.
I am fascinated by the gap between the physicality of travel and the experiences of the armchair explorer. I question the relationships between people in their respective locations who may be unable to reach each other physically or emotionally. Guy Debord's prediction of technology creating "lonely crowds" and Will Self's insights into the physicality of walking and travel inform my work.
Through minimalist drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation, I explore my need for physical and emotional connection.
