Red-Tailed Resolve
For this hawk portrait, I wanted to capture that wonderful combination of bulk, calmness, and absolute alertness that birds of prey seem to possess. I layered warm siennas and soft ochres into cooler blue-gray feathers, allowing some colors to mingle directly on the paper rather than mixing everything beforehand. The eye and curved beak received the sharpest attention, while the outer feathers were deliberately allowed to fade away.
