Pattern Work 131
When I make patterns I go for a certain complexity that holds my attention and then I work on color variations that feel right. With the current image I started by sampling a large colored pencil and oil pastel drawing from 2014 to create a pattern. I then sampled the pattern to create a more complex pattern. Using Photoshop I separated out various elements on to separate layers and applied various layer styles like textures and slight drop shadows give some details a bit more depth. These subtle elements are not all noticeable at the every scale or when printed on every product but I strive to make sure they still feel right when one zooms out. I might add that I created over 100 variations on this particular pattern.
