Southern Rockhopper penguin - Eudyptes (chrysocome) chrysocome
This photo was taken on Saunders Island, The Falklands (Islas Malvinas)
This Rockhopper penguin was perched right at the top of a cliff on the Falkland Islands. It is fascinating to see them come back to shore after a day of feeding, and watch as they scale the steep slopes back to their nests. It was hard enough for me to climb up once, let alone for such small creatures to do this constantly!
There was a waterfall close to the spot where the picture was taken, and this little penguin soon wandered off to bathe in the fresh water, hopping over the rocks as it went.
