Leftover Rails Along the High Line
The High Line in New York City, New York, USA, is a 1.45 mile long public park built on the elevated section of of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line. Not all of the rails were removed. The park is now the site of art installations, live music, dancing, and other cultural programming. The hoops seen here are part of one installation. From the High Line website (https://www.thehighline.org/about): "The High Line's planting design is inspired by the self-seeded landscape that grew on the out-of-use elevated rail tracks during the 25 years after trains stopped running. The species of perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees were chosen for their hardiness, sustainability, and textural and color variation, with a focus on native species. Many of the species that originally grew on the High Line's rail bed are incorporated into the park's landscape. The High Line's green roof system is designed to allow the plants to retain as much water as possible. In addition, there is an irrigation system installed with options for both automatic and manual watering.”
