Common Sense
Where: StJean D'Angely – France, When: 8.32am, 24-10-2017 With What: Hasselblad 555ELD, 80mm f2.8,@ f5.6, 60th Sec, Kodak Tri-X Touched up with: CS6, Nik Software I could have called this piece so many things, The Invisible man, Now you see me..., Hide and Seek, Shopping Trip, but the title most fitting to why I was there was because I like to try to combine many tasks and a trip in one. This may be because we have an electric car with a 90 mile range, it also might be some sort of OCD thing I trained into myself when I used to install satellite dishes in London. It was a small company and everyone who worked there had no real clue how to run it, even the boss I was fresh out of college and needed a job. There were two people manned the appointment phones in the office and they seemed to be the only two people who had no clue what logistics was and how important it was when arranging appointments around town and at what time of day. Which I thought was common sense. Many a time I could look at our days job sheet and see a job in one location, with the next, the other side of London and the next, 3 miles from the first job and so forth. Trying to explain this issue to the two in the office, who were obviously geographically challenged was a certainly a test in patience. I need to point out this was before the days of GPS systems and dedicated tracking and logistic software. I learnt that this apparently had been going on for years before I started working for this company, I had suffered the chaotic conditions for only a week before I finally cracked and asked if it was OK if the boss could buy the two numpties in the appointment dept a large map which we put on the wall in front of their desk. After that I was hailed as a hero and also made key trainer for the dept in how to read a map. I seemed to be the only person in the company who had listened in Geography class. So now, whenever we plan anything today, I try to group as many things together as I can so we can get all the jobs done at the same time, which is amazing for two reasons. 1, men are not known for being able to multitask, 2, I'm not that clever but I have common sense. So my key agenda was to walk the dog, it was early so I needed the electric car as it was quiet, this was so I could leave early without a revving engine to wake up the rest of the family. As I was taking the electric car it needed charging, the supermarket also had an electric charge point for our car, so I would do the shopping at the same time. To top it off I'd take my camera to see if I could take a shot or two in the lovely thick mist which the cold morning had presented. Thankfully it all went according to plan and I ended up with an array of food, pictures, a happy dog and a fully charged car. A minor miracle for me but I'll take whatever comes. I hope you like it.
