MoDoLaNd - Home of the Modotpetoc Tribe!
Pre-Hispanic hunter-gatherers, the Modotpetoc were indigenous artisans. Induced trances inspired them to create figures and masks of their deceased ancestors. These graphics are of those "Lost Heads" exhumed from ancient burial sites hidden within sand dunes beneath the City of San Francisco. These dunes are the furthest inland of any on the west coast. The San Francisco City Hall and Civic Center are built on top of them.
Often visitors feel spirits in the halls and chambers of the government buildings. Many claim to see images of the Modotpetoc leaders floating at the top of the gilded dome and dancing on ceilings and walls during supervisorial meetings. The disappeared Modo have come back to keep watch.
