    Brain Lightning
The brain is the most complex part of the human body. Now think about this organ for a minute. This three-pound mass of jelly is an object we can hold in our hand, yet it is the seat of intelligence, controlling our behavior, interpreting our senses, and allowing us to contemplate the vastness of space, the beauty of art. Lying in its bony shell and washed by protective fluid, the brain is the source of all the qualities that define our humanity. The brain is, in essence, the crown jewel of the human body. The brain relies on extensive connections among its cells (i.e., neurons) to communicate across all of its regions. Such circuitry is composed of networks of neurons made up of cells that are interconnected in order to carry out a specific function when activated. Sets of neural networks are also interconnected to one another to form large scale brain networks. Biological neural networks have inspired the design of artificial neural networks used in artificial intelligence and computing. Brain cells use electrical signals to communicate across the networks, depicted here as white and blue 'brain lightning'.
