Blue Ringed Octopus
The Blue Ringed Octopus is a highly venomous species of octopus found in tide pools and coral reefs from Japan to Australia. Identified by their yellowish skin and strinking blue and black rings which change colour dramatically when the animal feels threatened. While only 12 to 20cm in length they are recognize as one of the worlds most venomous marine animals.
This hand drawn black and white illustration was created using stippling, a technique which can be described as an intricate process of layering thousands of small dots to create tone and texture to depict the subject.
