American Wings
For this bald eagle in flight, I concentrated on strength of shape rather than excessive detail. The dark wings were built from overlapping washes of charcoal, indigo, and warm brown, with the paper showing through in small places to suggest reflected light. I kept the sky extremely pale so the bird’s extended wings and lowered talons would carry the full drama of the painting.
