Seen next to the water tower at Kidderminster station is preserved GWR 4800 (1400) Class 0-4-2T 1450. 1450 was built in 1935 at the famous Swindon Works, and is based on the earlier 517 class which dated back to 1868; the product of George Armstrong. Due to its small size, 1450 wasn't used for regular passenger operations, but could technically have been put to work hauling the GWR's special push-pull Autocoaches; a precursor to modern day Driving Van Trailers. Most of 1450's life was spent working the Great Western Railway's extensive network of branchlines across South Wales and the South West, and remained working with successor British Railways until withdrawal from Exmouth Junction in May 1965. Directly entering preservation, it's small size and simple operation made it ideal for heritage railways. Between 2004 and 2014, the locomotive lived on the Dean Forest Railway in Gloucestershire, but is now a frequent performer on the Severn Valley Railway. Taken at Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England.
