A Window In Time
A medieval arched window provides imposing views to Wells Cathedral at the wonderful Bishop's Palace in Wells, Somerset, UK. The Bishop's Palace dates back to the early 13th century. The Palace grounds comprise of 14 acres of buildings and gardens where visitors can wander, picnic and take part in other regular events. It is an amazing place to visit and one is overwhelmed by the sense of history and privilege that the successive Bishops living here enjoyed. Bishop Trotman, the first Bishop of Bath and Wells, was the first resident Bishop after he received permission from the Crown to build a residence and deer park in 1210. Successive bishops added to the initial residence, which includes a moat, a drawbridge and a gatehouse as well as a great dining hall. During the centuries Bishop's Palace has been used as a garrison for soldiers and a prison. More recently the picturesque setting has been used as the setting for films and TV programs.
