View Larger on Chockstone Photography The Twelve Apostles are a set of crumbling rock formations rising out of the sea on the West Coast of Victoria, Australia. They represent a very popular tourist destination along “The Great Ocean Road”. This location can be both exhilarating and frustrating for the landscape photographer. I’ve shot this area several times a year for the last 20 or more years and yet something keeps me coming back. On this occasion the setting sun somehow found its way through dark storm clouds creating shafts of golden light blazing across the water to light up the cliffs with an intense glow. The ocean was foaming mad, with white capped waves crashing ashore and an intense salty squall buffeting my position. Fortunately I’ve developed some methods over the years for dealing with tumultuous weather, so you’ll find this shot tack sharp, despite the conditions.
