View Larger on Chockstone Photography Built in 1901 Norah Head Lighthouse on the New South Wales central coast is a popular tourist attraction. Being only 90 minutes drive from Sydney it is reasonably accessible to city dwellers. People enjoy walking along Lighthouse Beach and exploring the rocks below the lighthouse grounds. You can even stay in the heritage Lighthouse Keepers Quarters. My interest in the area has always been for photography. Given the significant distance from home in Victoria, it was not a location I had spent much time on until I found myself mid-way through a photography trip. Boxed in by rain fronts in all directions, Norah Head represented a small pocket of calm. I selected my composition in the afternoon, then slept the night in the car, and was down on the beach well before dawn, with my tripod up and ready for action. Whilst the sun never made a direct appearance the sky took on some amazing hues and I was able to capture some long exposure wave movement and reflected light on the foreground. Given my expectations had been quite low, I was very pleased to have been granted such a wonderful morning.
