Muang Sing market, Laos
Early morning in the old colonial French market in Muang Sing near the Lao-China border, and the place is bustling with activity, colours, smells and sounds. Akha hilltribe children, dressed in their finest traditional costumes and headdresses, enjoy a hearty breakfast at one of the many market food stalls. Favourites include delicious turkey noodle soup and soft tofu with condiments. This shot was taken in 1994 with a Nikon FM2, nikkor 28mm lense and Ektachrome slide film. I have heard the old market no longer exists, and Muang Sing, like other towns in northern Laos is experiencing dramatic changes influenced by China's economic boom.
