View Larger on Chockstone Photography Mount Macedon is both a lovely little forest town and a mountain that rises some 1000 metres not far from Melbourne. It's known for cooler weather, some beautiful gardens and extravagant homes, as well as being a popular rock climbing destination. Built in 1935 for those who died in the First World War, a 20m high Memorial Cross stands near the summit looking out over the countryside. Having visited the mountain many times over many years, sometimes to climb, though often just for a family outing, I realised I'd never captured a landscape image of it. I chose a composition, and then returned for several mornings before one finally stood out. The fog cleared just enough to reveal the valley floor as dawn light rolled over the tree tops. Magic!
