View Larger on Chockstone Photography Fowlers Bay resides on the Eyre Peninsula at the western edge of South Australia not that far from Ceduna. Part of the enormous Nullarbor Plain, the region is generally arid and town itself quite tiny, but don’t let that stop you exploring. I am told there is good fishing off the town jetty and whale watching a possibility during the right months. Sandboarding is a popular activity at Fowlers Bay. Visitors with sufficient energy scale the tallest sand dunes and surf down them, entertaining onlookers as much as themselves. (Boards can be rented from the local kiosk). You can also take your wheel drive across the dunes and gain access to its furthest reaches, though of course only with experience and care. My interest in the area was, of course, for landscape photography. Our boy and I trekked across the dunes searching for compositions whilst being pelted with sand. Incredibly that was not as bad as it sounds. Although the devilish crystals got into everything, including our camera bags, the actual experience of being there with rivers of sand swirling around our feet was something to remember for years to come.
