Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is a tack 96 megapixel image, suitable for enormous enlargements. View Larger on Chockstone Photography Crescent Head is a lovely little beachside town some 440km north-northeast of Sydney. It has a small golf course overlooking the sea, and for surfers it boasts one of the longest right-hand point breaks in Australia. There are plenty of nearby beaches, bush walking tracks, and accommodation for all budgets. Naturally I slept in the car, so I can’t comment on the upmarket abodes, but what attracted me, photographically were the sea-cliffs and rock formations. I sat, perched on a precarious outcrop, tripod set, camera ready and waited for the light. A storm rolled in off the coast, so I put up my big umbrella and huddled under it, shielding myself and my gear. The wind picked up, and then the rain started, just a drizzle at first but pretty soon it was an onslaught. With luck on my side, however, the setting sun chose to burst through the roiling clouds in a last definite illumination, casting golden light on my scene. Seconds later it was swallowed by the storm and darkness enveloped the land like a shroud. With the decisive moment captured I packed hurriedly and made a mad dash for the relative comfort of my car, while the tempest raged behind me. The next morning I awoke to clear skies and nothing more than a light breeze, and had a pleasant time exploring the area. I’m sure I’ll be back again soon.
