Three Mile Station
Captain Marlin Winston's oceanfront home predates the bridges connecting the Outer Banks to the Carolina mainland. Mrs. Rebecca Winston kept oil lamps illuminated in the house at night, for the Captain to find his way home. This light on the Atlantic became known among sailors as "Three Mile Station".
