    The Distance Inside a Flower
A White-Lined Sphinx Moth withdraws her extraordinarily long proboscis from a hidden Rocky Mountain Beeplant flower and rises into flight. The tension between the moth and the distant blossom tears one long strip from the painted night canvas, folding it backward into three monumental layers and revealing the luminous nocturnal ecosystem concealed behind the surface. “The Distance Inside a Flower” reflects the idea that distance does not prevent connection. Although the moth moves forward into the visible world, one delicate living structure continues to unite her with the flower behind the canvas. Their natural interaction becomes a sculptural metaphor for trust across separation, persistence, intimacy, and the ability of something fragile to bridge an impossible space. Part of The Wild Rift: Pollinators collection, this contemporary nature artwork transforms an authentic nectar-feeding behavior into a dramatic rupture of the picture plane. The torn canvas recedes through three large accordion-like folds toward the hidden flower, creating the illusion that a tiny blossom contains a depth far greater than the painted world can hold. The piece celebrates nocturnal pollinators and the enduring truth that meaningful connections can remain alive across even the greatest distances.
