The Artist - (large print) Oil Painting by Avril Thomas - Adelaide / South Australia Artist
The original oil painting is about being an artist, its a sizable work with the back figure just shy of being life size. Its about the burning desire to create something original and the imagination to take that thought somewhere new. It takes a lot of work and perserverence to become an artist! I make reference to the time I have with the hour glass. All 3 figures are me. (I usually paint other people.) These are usually more serious/ flattering. Those are very much a collaborative venture. Ive been very fortunate 99% of commissions have been left entirely to me to create. I do like to tell a story in them tho, narritive is fun so discovering the story is the fun of it not just for me but also for the subject. When you do a selfie a) the subject is curiously available b)its my party and I'll paint it how I want to. The dragon is part of this story - I'll leave the meaning to your imagination.
