View Larger on Chockstone Photography Crescent Head is a lovely little beachside town some 440km north-northeast of Sydney. It has a small golf course overlooking the sea, and for surfers it boasts one of the longest right-hand point breaks in Australia. There are plenty of nearby beaches, bush walking tracks, and accommodation for all budgets. The town is tiny, which is exactly how I like them, but still has a great bakery and clean toilets, so a high score from me. Photographically the location has serious potential. Each time I’ve visited I seem to find myself gravitating towards the oceans edge where crashing waves meet tall dark cliffs. It is an exciting place to explore on a nice day, but quite remarkable when storms roll in and the tide is up. This image was captured during one such evening. With the waves swirling over my feet, the ocean spray and intermittent rain showers it was a challenge, but fortunately there was very little wind so keeping the camera dry and safe was actually not that big of a deal. As a result I had a blast, and shot some 200 frames over the course of an hour or two. From those this one was selected. Hopefully you like it as much as I.
