Pillars of Creation - with Annotated Legend

The Pillars of Creation is one of the Hubble Space Telescope’s earliest and most iconic images. It shows the Eagle Nebula, located around 7,000 light years away in the Serpens constellation, in unprecedented detail. The nebula is composed of towers of gas and dust in the process of creating new stars within them. The light of the newly formed stars are, in turn, eroding the nebula and lighting it from within, creating an ethereal glow. The original image was taken in 1995; the image seen here is photographed in visible light and taken in 2015 using the Hubble’s significantly upgraded Wide Field Camera 3 (installed in 2009) to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope. Includes annotation and information. The image includes a unique footer with information about the photo and mission, and an annotated legend.
